Detroit’s general manager/president, Dave Dombrowski, told reporters on Friday that he informed Hunter and his representatives that the veteran outfielder wasn’t in the team’s plan going forward. From the Detroit Free-Press:
And then, if there was any lingering doubt, that was erased when Hunter posted this on his Instagram account:
In his two seasons with the Tigers, Hunter posted a solid .295/.327.456 slash line and averaged 17 homers, 84 RBIs and 80 runs scored while batting primarily second or fifth in the Detroit lineup.

So where will Hunter land? According to reports, plenty of teams are interested.
Hunter will be 40 in July and isn’t much of a defensive outfielder at this point in his career, but he’s still solid at the plate and is regarded as one of the best teammates and clubhouse presences in baseball, for what that’s worth. Judging by the number of teams that are interested, it’s worth a lot.
